Student Code of Conduct
Our Student Code of Conduct empowers every CCKSSian to uphold our values and contribute to a respectful, caring and inclusive school community.
School Rules
The school believes that a positive school tone is critical to student learning and character development. CCKSians must learn the rationale for and the importance of school rules in creating a positive and conducive learning environment for all. School rules state the school’s expectations of student behaviour, which forms the basis of character development.
Attendance and Punctuality
CCKSians attend school every school day.
If CCKSians are absent with a valid reason, they will present to their Form Teacher a medical certificate or a parent’s letter (for a non-medical reason) on the following school day. Failing which, the student would be deemed to be “Absent without Valid Reason”. This would also apply to school activities conducted outside of normal curriculum time. A maximum of 5 parents’ letters are allowed per student, per semester.
CCKSians arrive punctually for the flag-raising ceremony at the beginning of each school day, for their lessons and all school events. If they are late, they will apologise for their tardiness to the Teacher-in-charge and explain their reason.
CCKSians do not leave the class, school or school events without seeking permission from the Teacher-in-charge. If they feel unwell during the school day and seek to leave the school early, they must report to the General Office and the Office staff will contact their parents to take them home. If they wish to leave the school during school hours for a valid reason, they must first obtain permission from a HOD, Vice-Principal or Principal. An Early Departure Form needs to be completed and submitted to the General Office.
Personal Grooming and School Uniform
CCKSians wear the prescribed uniform and modification to the uniform is not allowed. The uniform is worn smartly both in and outside of school. CCKSians are mindful that they represent the school and uphold the school’s image. A female student’s skort should touch the knees. A male student’s long pants should be of appropriate length. The PE attire consists of the school approved PE T-shirt, PE shorts, plain white socks and shoes. CCKSians are expected to change to their shorts/pants/skorts by the next break.
CCKSians do not wear jewellery or fashion accessories with the school uniform. Female students may wear a pair of small silver/gold ear-studs.
CCKSians practice good personal grooming. They do not dye their hair. They also keep their fingernails clean and short. CCKsians do not use cosmetics, nail polish or coloured contact lenses. They are not allowed to make any modifications to their eye lashes or eyebrows.
School uniform is to be always tucked in neatly.
For boys, school pants are not to be tapered.
Students are not allowed to have tattoos. This is considered a serious offence, and the school will mete out the appropriate consequences.
PE Attire
School approved PE shorts and T-shirt.
Hair
Girls
Long hair to be neatly tied up or plaited using black or navy-blue bands. All fringes should be pinned up neatly using simple black or navy-blue clips.
Ear accessories
Only dark blue, navy-blue, black, silver or gold single ear studs on each ear are allowed. Multiple studs and single/multiple rings are not allowed.
Single clear, short ear sticks are allowed on each ear (at the bottom earlobe). Multiple ear sticks on each ear and coloured ear sticks are not allowed.
Boys
Boys should have neat, short hair with fringes above the eyebrows and no sideburns. Hair length must be proportionate. No shaven sides, mullets, perming or mohawks are allowed.
Male students must be clean-shaven and neat in appearance.
Male students are not allowed to pierce their ears nor wear ear sticks.
Academic Studies
CCKSians must have a keen learning attitude.
CCKSians must bring the required books and materials to lessons and be prepared for lessons.
CCKSians participate actively and listen attentively during lessons. They take ownership of their learning and seek clarification on content that they do not understand.
CCKSians take pride in their academic work. They put in their best effort in their assignments and hand them in on time.
General Behaviour in School
CCKSians show due respect to the symbols of our nation: Our President, State Flag, National Anthem and The Pledge. CCKSians who are Singapore citizens must sing the National Anthem and recite the Pledge with the right fist placed over the heart. Non-Singaporeans will stand at attention during the ceremony.
We believe that our CCKSians aspire to be always on their best behaviour, both in and outside of school.
CCKSians greet the teaching, non-teaching staff and visitors in the school.
CCKSians speak quietly and politely to staff and peers. They are neither rowdy nor rude, whether in class, in school or on school outings.
CCKSian must move in twos and in a quiet and orderly manner and be led by their Class leaders when leaving assembly venues
CCKSians must move in a brisk, quiet and orderly manner when moving around the school during school hours.
CCKSians only leave their class during or between lessons with the permission of their Subject Teacher.
Students must not remain in class during recess and lunch break.
Behaviour in Canteen
CCKSians practice consideration for others in the canteen. They queue up for food and drinks and consume all food and beverages only in the canteen. They clean the table they have used and return utensils to the receptacles provided.
Care for the Environment
CCKSians keep their environment neat and clean, whether the venue is their classroom, special rooms, computer labs, CCA rooms or other parts of the school compound. They do not litter. They ensure lights, fans and air-conditioners are switched off if they are the last to leave the room.
Security and Safety
CCKSians take care of their own belongings and watch out for the belongings of others. They do not bring excessive cash or expensive items to school. They are honest and return items they have found to the General Office.
CCKSians do not loiter in the neighbourhood or at public places by themselves or with others, before or after school. They are mindful of the need to spend their time after school wisely and productively.
CCKSians obey all pedestrian crossing rules as they care for their own safety and the safety of other road users.
CCKSians adhere to safe practices for all school activities. They observe safety precautions in the Science Laboratories, Technical Workshops, Computer Laboratories, Kitchens, Gymnasium and Special Rooms.
Possession of any Weapon or Weapon-Like Item
All students are not allowed to have in their possession any weapon. They are also not allowed to bring any weapon-like item which is used or intended to be used to cause harm to themselves or others.
Use of Mobile Phones
Students learn well when there is order, discipline and minimal distraction. It is important that all CCKSians learn to be responsible and discerning users of technology. We would strongly advise parents, it they wish their children to bring a mobile phone to school, to purchase a simple mobile phone for communication purposes only. This is to minimise distraction and replacement costs in the case of loss or damage. In addition to the CCE and Cyberwellness curriculum, our school has in place the following rules and policies to ensure the responsible use of mobile devices in school.
a. Mobile phones can only be used before 740am in the school canteen.
b. Students are to ensure that their mobile phones are placed in their respective lockers.
c. Students are only allowed to take their phones after CCA or lessons for that day have ended. Upon collecting their phones, they are to leave the school.
d. Students found using their mobile phone without permission will be asked to submit their mobile phone to the General Office. It will be returned on the same day by the General Office staff after 430pm. For repeated offences, mobile phones will be handed over to a member of the Student Management Team. Form Teachers will communicate and work with parents if the student’s mobile phone has been confiscated.
Should parents need to contact their child, or in the case of an emergency, they may call the General Office. For non-emergency cases, they should SMS their child and leave a message for him/her to return the call as soon as he/she reads the message after school dismissal.
School Rules on Search of Student Belongings
The school is committed to maintaining a safe and disciplined environment for all members of our school community.
As part of this commitment, the school may conduct searches of student belongings (e.g., bags, folders, files, uniform pockets, digital devices) where there is reasonable cause to believe an offence may have been committed or prohibited or dangerous items are present. Searches of student belongings may also be carried out on a random basis as a general safety measure, and to help maintain a safe and disciplined environment.
The school will confiscate items which are prohibited, dangerous, and/or suspected of containing evidence of an offence/crime. If such items are found, parents/guardians will be informed, and the items may also be turned over to the relevant authorities.
Chua Chu Kang Secondary School Anti-Bullying Policy
“A Safe Space to Learn, Grow, and Thrive”
At Chua Chu Kang Secondary School, we are committed to providing a caring, safe, and enabling environment. Every student has the right to be respected and the responsibility to respect others. We maintain a strict, zero-tolerance stance against all forms of hurtful behavior and bullying.
1. Our Stand Towards Bullying
Definition of Bullying
Bullying is the persistent and intentional targeted execution of hurtful acts where there is an unbalance of power. It can happen face-to-face or online, and is classified into four main areas:
Physical: Hitting, pushing, tripping, or damaging personal property.
Verbal: Name-calling, mocking, slurs, and verbal threats.
Social/Relational: Systematic exclusion, spreading malicious rumors, or manipulating social circles to isolate an individual.
Cyber: Sending hurtful messages, creating hate pages, or sharing unauthorised/altered media on social messaging apps (e.g., WhatsApp, Discord, Telegram, Instagram, TikTok).
Our Core Principles
1. Wrong and Unacceptable: Any action that undermines a student’s physical or psychological safety will be dealt with firmly.
2. Accountability Beyond School Walls: In alignment with MOE standards, our jurisdiction extends to cyberbullying and off-premises misconduct (e.g., public transport, public spaces) if it impacts the well-being of our students and the school environment.
3. Educational and Restorative Balance: While disciplinary actions are immediate and strict, our long-term goal is rehabilitation, guiding perpetrators toward behavior modification while comprehensively restoring the victim’s well-being.
2. Student Behavior Expectations & Role
A safe school culture relies on the daily actions of our student body. We categorise expectations into three pillars:
Be a Respectful Peer
Engage with classmates using constructive and encouraging language.
Embrace diversity and practice perspective-taking during Character and Citizenship Education (CCE) and Co-Curricular Activities (CCA).
Abide by the school’s Cyber Wellness guidelines. Do not participate in text-based cyber wars, do not generate harmful memes, and do not forward unverified, defamatory rumors.
Be an Active Upstander (Not a Bystander)
Speak Up Safely: If a situation is safe, firmly tell the perpetrator to stop.
Report Immediately: If you witness bullying, report it immediately to a Form Teacher, Year Head, Discipline Master, or via the school’s online link: http://tiny.cc/BullyingReportingForm (opens in new tab)
Support the Affected Peer: Walk away with the victim to diffuse the situation and reassure them that they are not alone.
Recording and Sharing Prohibitions
Students must never record or photograph a bullying or fighting incident.
Sharing or circulating recordings of school conflicts online or via chat groups with the intent to shame or embarrass others is a serious disciplinary offence and will result in strict action.
3. Parent Communication & Partnership
We believe that parents are our most crucial partners. To manage incidents effectively, schools and families must communicate with mutual respect, objective transparency, and a focus on student growth.
The School’s Commitment to Parents
Timely Notifications: The school will notify parents of both the affected student and the perpetrator within a clear timeline once an investigation begins.
Thorough Investigation: The school requires space and time to establish objective facts. Investigations will be completed with care, sensitivity, and without premature bias.
Safety Planning: For the affected student, the school will implement an immediate localised safety plan (e.g., separate seating, monitored recess times, peer support buddies, or temporary removal of online/chat group access).
Strict Confidentiality: Case files are kept private to protect the minors involved. While families will be fully informed of the outcomes concerning their own child, specific disciplinary details regarding other families' children cannot be legally disclosed.
Expectations for Parents
Reinforce At-Home Values: Actively model positive conflict resolution and check in regularly on your child's digital life (including WhatsApp and social media).
Encourage Early Voice: Teach your child to report issues to school staff early, rather than taking matters into their own hands or keeping it a secret.
Constructive Engagement: If you suspect your child is being bullied, document details objectively (dates, times, screenshots) and email the Form Teacher or Year Head directly to establish an official, collaborative action plan.
Avoid Public Misinformation: Refrain from posting unverified school disputes on social media or online public forums. Publicising open cases with skewed information compromises the privacy of the children and delays structural resolution.
Standardized Disciplinary Framework
In accordance with the MOE standardised baseline penalties for serious misconduct, Chua Chu Kang Secondary enforces calibrated, progressive consequences based on the severity and intent of the action. The full list of serious and very serious offences can be found in the next section.
