2026 Global Connect Trip to Japan
In May 2026, 20 CCKSians embarked on a meaningful learning journey to Japan, where they experienced the rich culture, history and community spirit of Fukuoka, Nagasaki and Shinkamigoto Island.
The trip began in Fukuoka, where our CCKSians visited Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine and explored Japanese traditions, values and religious customs. At the Fukuoka Bosai Centre, they took part in an earthquake-preparedness experience that showed them the importance of remaining calm, prepared and responsible in times of crisis.
In Nagasaki, our CCKSians encountered powerful reminders of the human cost of war at the Atomic Bomb Museum, Peace Park and Hypocentre. These visits deepened their understanding of peace, resilience and the need to build a more compassionate world. They also explored Glover Garden, gaining insight into Nagasaki’s role as a meeting point between Japan and the wider world.
A highlight of the trip was the visit to Shinkamigoto Island and Arikawa Junior High School, where CCKSians connected with their Japanese peers through meaningful exchanges. Beyond the classroom, they experienced the warmth of island life by making traditional kankoro mochi, visiting the beautiful Aosagaura Church and Totoro Rock at Yagatame Park, and contributing to the community through a beach-cleaning activity at Hamagurihama Beach.
Throughout the journey, our CCKSians observed the quiet but powerful values woven into everyday Japanese life: cleanliness, courtesy, punctuality, consideration and placing the needs of the community before one’s own. These experiences resonated strongly with CCKSS’s values of respect, responsibility, resilience and care for others.
More than a trip overseas, the Japan learning journey challenged our CCKSians to become thoughtful global citizens—young people who appreciate cultural differences, honour the lessons of history and seek to make a positive difference wherever they are.
