Information on 2024 Direct School Admission to Chua Chu Kang Secondary School

(For admission to Secondary One in 2025)

Introduction

The DSA-Sec Exercise was introduced by the Ministry of Education in 2004. It seeks to promote holistic education and provide students an opportunity to demonstrate a more diverse range of achievements and talents in seeking admission to a secondary school.

When choosing a secondary school, parents and students are encouraged to choose schools wisely based on the students' aptitudes and strengths, bearing in mind the schools’ academic and non-academic requirements, and the programmes available to develop the area of talent.

We would like to invite students with an interest or aptitude in the talent areas stated below seeking admission to our school, to apply through this exercise.

Successful applicants will be part of the Class Committee in their class (Class Leader or Peer Support Leader). They will undergo training and join the Student Council as Junior Councilor in Sec 2 and will be developed to take on other leadership roles such as Student Councilor or CCA Leader by Secondary 3
All successful DSA applicants are given the opportunities to initiate and champion at least one

i) service-learning project that impacts the community OR

ii) project that impacts the school by the end of the secondary school course

Science for Sustainable Development

Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics

Engage students in a Design Thinking programme and problem-solving projects focused on Sustainability
Take part in Learning Journeys to gain real-world context
Explore opportunities to join Sustainability-related competitions

Eligibility Criteria

Selection for admission to the school via DSA-Secondary is based on the following:

a. Hockey

CCA Involvement – Participation, Representation & Achievements
Physical Fitness - Latest NAPFA Test Results

b. Modern Dance

CCA Involvement – Participation, Representation & Achievement, or relevant experience or qualification in Dance

c. Community Youth Leadership

Students must have assumed leadership role in the primary school in either CCA, Class or Committees
Active participation in a school or community project

d. Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths – Science for Sustainable Development

Passion in Sustainable Development
Participation, Representation & Achievements in Sustainability Projects/Programmes/Competitions

Applicants should also possess the positive character traits and good conduct in school.
Meeting all the criteria does not guarantee the student will be shortlisted/given an offer.

Application and Selection Procedures

Application for DSA-Sec can be submitted through the online DSA-Sec Portal. The application is free-of-charge and will be open from 7 May, 11am – 3 June 2024, 3pm. For more details, please refer to MOE website – www.moe.gov.sg/secondary/dsa

Shortlisted applicants will be notified and scheduled to attend interviews and skills assessment. Shortlisted applicants should attend the interviews and skills assessment only if they are feeling well.

All applicants will be informed of the outcome of their application by 10 – 12 September 2024. The school’s decision on the offer is final.

Application Selection Schedule

24 Jun – 19 Jul 2024	Shortlisted candidates will be notified by phone/email of dates of the skills assessment and interview.
24 Jun – 9 Sep 2024	School conducts skills assessment and interview for short-listed candidates.
10 – 12 Sep 2024	School informs candidates of the results.

Selection Process

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an interview between 24 June 2024 and 9 Sept 2024.

Applicants will be notified by post or email latest on the outcome of their application.

Students who are successfully admitted to the school via DSA are expected to honour their commitment to the school and participate in the CCA or activities related to the respective talent areas allocated throughout their four years in Chua Chu Kang Secondary School.
