Singapore Times Project Learning Journey to Gali Batu Depot

History extends beyond textbooks—it can also be found in the infrastructure and systems that have shaped Singapore's development over the decades.

As part of the Singapore Times programme, our CCKSians visited the Gali Batu Bus Depot to explore the evolution of Singapore's public transport network and gain a deeper understanding of its role in nation-building.

During the visit, our CCKSians discovered how Singapore's transport system has developed alongside the nation's rapid urbanisation and economic growth. They learnt how an efficient and well-planned public transport network has connected communities, supported economic progress and improved the daily lives of Singaporeans.

The learning journey also provided valuable Humanities perspectives, encouraging our CCKSians to examine how government planning, technological innovation and the changing needs of a growing population have shaped transport policies and infrastructure over time. Through discussions and observations, our CCKSians reflected on the importance of sustainable transport systems and how they contribute to social cohesion, environmental sustainability and Singapore's quality of life.

Chua Chu Kang Secondary School extends its appreciation to SBS Transit for hosting our students and providing an insightful behind-the-scenes look at the operations of Singapore's world-class public transport system.

The visit reinforced an important lesson in History—that understanding the past enables us to better appreciate how decisions made over time continue to shape Singapore's present and future.
