Welcoming Our Friends from Shinkamigoto: Celebrating Friendship Beyond Borders

Chua Chu Kang Secondary School (CCKSS) was delighted to welcome students and staff from the Shinkamigoto Board of Education, Japan, for a meaningful day of learning, cultural exchange and friendship. The visit provided a wonderful opportunity for our CCKSians and Japanese guests to connect, share experiences and deepen their understanding of one another's cultures.

Learning Through Shared Experiences

Throughout the visit, our Japanese friends participated in a variety of hands-on activities showcasing the diverse learning experiences offered at CCKSS.

Our visitors explored the possibilities of immersive Virtual Reality (VR) technology, experiencing how digital tools can transform learning and create engaging, interactive environments.

They also discovered aspects of Singapore's multicultural heritage through Deepavali oil lamp painting, expressing their creativity while learning about the cultural significance of this traditional festival.

During the Design & Technology (D&T) activities, our guests had the opportunity to engage in practical, hands-on learning, exploring how creativity, design and problem-solving come together.

A visit to our Herb and Spice Garden introduced our Japanese friends to plants commonly used in Singapore's local cuisine and daily life. This experience offered insights into our food culture, biodiversity and the importance of appreciating the natural environment.

Building Friendships Across Cultures

Beyond the activities, the most meaningful aspect of the visit was the opportunity for students from Singapore and Japan to interact and forge new friendships.

Through shared experiences, conversations and collaborative activities, our CCKSians and Japanese guests learned more about one another's cultures, perspectives and everyday lives.

These interactions provided authentic opportunities to develop communication skills, cultural awareness and mutual respect. They also reinforced the importance of Civic, Global and Cross-Cultural Literacy, an essential component of the Emerging 21st Century Competencies (E21CC).

The visit reflected our commitment to nurturing globally minded CCKSians who are confident in engaging with people from diverse backgrounds and who approach differences with curiosity, openness and empathy.

Growing Together, Thriving Together

Our partnership and exchanges with Shinkamigoto continue to provide valuable opportunities for international friendship and shared learning.

Guided by our school theme, “Growing Together, Thriving Together,” the visit reminded us that education extends beyond geographical boundaries. Every interaction offers an opportunity to broaden perspectives, build understanding and form meaningful connections.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the Shinkamigoto Board of Education, visiting students and staff for spending this memorable day with us.

新上五島町の皆さん、ようこそ！国境を越えた友情と文化交流

チュア・チュー・カン・セカンダリースクール（CCKSS）は、日本の新上五島町教育委員会の生徒の皆さんと先生方をお迎えし、学びと文化交流、そして友情を深める意義ある一日を共に過ごすことができ、大変嬉しく思います。

今回の訪問は、CCKSSの生徒たちと日本からの訪問団が交流し、さまざまな体験を共有しながら、お互いの文化への理解を深める素晴らしい機会となりました。

共に体験し、共に学ぶ

訪問中、新上五島町の皆さんは、CCKSSで行われている多彩な体験型学習活動に参加しました。

バーチャルリアリティ（VR）体験では、デジタル技術が学習をどのように変え、より魅力的で双方向的な学習環境を生み出すことができるのかを体験しました。

また、ディーパバリのオイルランプ絵付け体験を通して、シンガポールの多文化社会に触れ、伝統的な祭りの文化的意義を学びながら、創造力を発揮しました。

デザイン＆テクノロジー（D&T）の実習では、創造性やデザイン、問題解決の力を生かした実践的な学習に取り組みました。

さらに、校内のハーブ＆スパイスガーデンを散策し、シンガポールの料理や日常生活で使われる植物について学びました。この活動を通して、シンガポールの食文化や生物多様性、自然環境を大切にすることの重要性について理解を深めました。

文化を越えて友情を育む

さまざまな体験活動に加え、今回の訪問で最も意義深かったのは、シンガポールと日本の生徒たちが交流し、新たな友情を育むことができたことです。

共に活動し、会話を交わし、経験を共有することで、両国の生徒たちは互いの文化や考え方、日常生活について理解を深めました。

こうした交流は、コミュニケーション能力、異文化理解、相互尊重の心を育む貴重な機会となりました。また、21世紀に求められる重要な能力の一つである、市民・グローバル・異文化リテラシーの大切さを改めて実感する機会にもなりました。

今回の訪問は、多様な背景を持つ人々と自信を持って交流し、好奇心と寛容さ、思いやりをもって文化の違いを受け入れることのできる、国際的な視野を持った生徒を育てるという本校の取り組みを反映しています。

共に成長し、共に輝く

新上五島町との交流とパートナーシップは、国際的な友情と相互学習の貴重な機会を提供し続けています。

本校の今年のテーマである 「Growing Together, Thriving Together（共に成長し、共に輝く）」 のもと、今回の訪問は、学びには国境がなく、一つひとつの交流が視野を広げ、相互理解を深め、意味のあるつながりを築く機会になることを改めて教えてくれました。

新上五島町教育委員会の皆様、そして訪問してくださった生徒の皆さんと先生方に、心より感謝申し上げます。

これからも友情を育み、共に学び、交流を深め、成長できる機会が続くことを楽しみにしています。
