Young Tembusu Programme
Our CCKSians recently participated in the Young Tembusu Programme, an award-winning initiative by the National Institute of Education (NIE) and a key component of the school's Signature Humanities Programme.
Bringing together students from schools across Singapore, the four-day programme immersed participants in Knowledge Building, an inquiry-driven approach where every learner contributes ideas, builds on the thinking of others and collaboratively develops deeper understanding. Through this process, our CCKSians explored the wonders of nature while learning that knowledge grows through meaningful dialogue, curiosity and collective effort.
Guided by their own interests, our CCKSians formed inquiry groups to investigate authentic questions, including whether humans can create artificial photosynthesis. As they researched, discussed and challenged one another's perspectives, they refined their ideas, connected concepts and developed increasingly sophisticated explanations. The experience encouraged our CCKSians to think critically, communicate confidently and appreciate the value of diverse viewpoints.
The programme culminated in a showcase where our CCKSians presented their inquiries and creative works to parents, university professors, fellow participants and visiting educators from Australia. Their presentations demonstrated not only their subject knowledge but also their confidence, collaboration and ability to articulate complex ideas.
The Young Tembusu Programme embodies the philosophy that learning is a shared journey of discovery. As Mr Melvin Chan often reminds our CCKSians, "Every individual is valuable. Every idea is improvable. Every inquiry is do-able."
