CCKSS Students Contribute to the Founders' Memorial Exhibition
The Founders' Memorial presented the exhibition, Semangat yang Baru: Forging a New Singapore Spirit, which explores the resilience, courage and determination of Singapore's pioneers as they came together to build a young nation. Through stories inspired by the values reflected in our National Anthem, the exhibition highlights significant milestones in Singapore's nation-building journey.
As part of the Student Archivist Project (SAP) 2022, a team of CCKSS students comprising Elijah Aris Lim Jie, Sandy Foo We Shan and Rene Aaliyah Binte Masrudin from Class 4/4 (2022) contributed to the exhibition by sharing the oral history of Mdm Tan Ai Kheng. Their interview provided a valuable first-hand perspective on how the Government's "Stop-at-Two" family planning campaign shaped the lives of women during Singapore's early years of development, complementing the exhibition's exploration of women's rights and social change.
Prior to conducting the interview, the students participated in workshops on oral history interviewing and writing skills before working with professional filmmakers to record Mdm Tan's story. Through this authentic learning experience, they developed valuable research, communication and historical inquiry skills while helping to preserve Singapore's collective memory for future generations.
