The History Times: Living in the Interwar Period
At Chua Chu Kang Secondary School, History is brought to life through authentic inquiry, collaboration and knowledge creation. Over the course of a year, students from Chua Chu Kang Secondary School and Clementi Town Secondary School worked together to deepen their understanding of the Interwar Period through a series of collaborative learning experiences, rigorous performance tasks and discussions centred on historical inquiry.
Working as historians, students curated evidence, connected ideas and constructed historical narratives before conceptualising, designing and publishing a collection of History Times newsletters on the Interwar Period. Their work culminated in a presentation at the Knowledge Building Networked Learning Community on 14 April 2023, where over 50 teachers, students, researchers and educational experts from around the world gathered to exchange ideas and deepen their collective understanding of history. Co-presenting alongside their peers from Clementi Town Secondary School, CCKSS students confidently facilitated discussions that enriched participants' historical literacy, historical consciousness and historical discourse.
Building on the success of this collaboration, the school continues to explore opportunities to expand the initiative through future partnerships with overseas schools and institutions, allowing students to engage with diverse perspectives and authentic global learning experiences.
